This is because tourists usually accept much lower pay then the locals would for doing the same work. Lots of backpackers would look for this kind of work so they can stay overseas a lot longer than they would be able to otherwise.

Oil rich Arab countries tend to bring in skilled foreign workers because of shortages in their own countries. The workers who go there are usually rewarded very well financially but it is also wise to know what you are getting yourself in for in terms of the local culture. In lots of these countries where Islam is the local religion it is illegal to drink alcohol making it hard for some westerners to adjust to the local customs.

In other Arab countries such as Iraq the financial rewards are enormous. As has been reported in the news recently lots of Westerners are targeted by extremists in Iraq so one must take all the risks into account when looking for work in certain countries. But with the rebuilding work in Iraq going ahead with Western financial aid, lots of Western companies are sending workers to the war torn region.

Construction jobs overseas in places such as Iraq pay handsomely but a person must weigh up the financial rewards with their personal wellbeing so it's a good idea to do your research before making any decisions about working in certain countries.
